FootGolfSA Team Selection policy

INTRODUCTION

FootGolf South Africa (FGSA) is the sole governing body for the sport of FootGolf in South Africa and the official member of the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG). The main objectives of FGSA are to develop, create structures, and promote the sport of FootGolf within South Africa.

FOOTGOLF SOUTH AFRICA NATIONAL TEAM SELECTION
POLICY

1. SELECTION POLICY SYSTEM

1.1. The objective of the selection policy system to provide the minimum eligibility
requirements for FootGolf player to be considered for selection to the National Team:
The selected National Team members will be evaluated, play tournaments, match
play against each other and the final squad be selected with reserves in each
category. The Player Selection/ Evaluation Committee will perform all player
evaluations and determine the final player selections prior to the established selection
deadlines.

2. SELECTION CRITERIA

2.1. The Selection of players to represent the association at National or International
events would be based on the following criteria:
• Athlete must be South African at the time of nomination
• Affiliation to the National Body (FGSA)
• Member of the Provincial Association
• Overall performance in the qualifying events
• Players conduct and behaviour
• Discipline on and off the field
• Good standing with the organisation (full payment of subscription fees)
2.2. The evaluation of players for nomination to the any event will include the following:
• Willingness to participate
• Availability to participate
• Playing ability/ proficiency
• Coachability
• Attitude/Conduct
• Contribution to the sport and the National Team

3. DISCRETIONARY SELECTION

3.1. Rationale for utilizing discretionary selection: The selectors may, at their
discretion, select any players who are members of a FootGolf structure affiliated to
FGSA. The selection of such players is not restricted to any minimum requirements.
Discretionary selection by the selection committee will result in the selection of the
best athletes who will work together and contribute to National Team success.

4. PLAYER SELECTION/EVALUATION COMMITTEE

4.1. The Player Selection/Evaluation Committee will perform all player evaluations and will determine the final player selections prior to the established selection deadlines. The Committee consist of the following:
• 1st Vice President
• Tournament Director
• National Team Coach or High-Performance Director

5. CONFLICT OF INTEREST

5.1. The process that will be used to identify and handle any potential conflicts of interest
involving a member of the committee follows that:
5.1.1. Any member of the selection committee that has a possible conflict of interest
must disclose it. If such conflict exists, the selection committee member must
recuse him/ herself from committee discussions and voting.
5.1.2. Further, the committee member should not otherwise influence other members
of the committee in the selection process.
5.1.3. However, a committee member who recused him/ herself, but who has relevant
and necessary information with respect to athlete performance, for example a
National Team Coach or High Performance Director, may, if requested by the
selection committee, provide such information to the committee so long as such
information is provided in a fair and unbiased manner and the committee
member who declared the conflict of interest does not vote toward the final
decision.

6. FINAL NATIONAL TEAM SELECTION

The selectors may, at their discretion, select any players who are members of a foot golf club affiliated to FootGolfSA. The selection will be based on player’s evaluation and grounds of
experience, conduct, availability, and commitment. Player selection as part FGSA’s National Team is conditional on players agreeing and signing the Athlete Agreement and Code of Conduct document and observing all the terms and conditions detailed in the same.

7. REMOVAL OF PLAYERS

A player who is nominated and selected to the National Team by FGSA may be removed for
any of the following reasons:
• Voluntary withdrawal
• Injury or illness as certified by a physician or medical staff
• Violation of the FGSA Code of Conduct
• Violation of the FGSA Constitution
• Failure to meet the criteria of other countries’ visa and immigration laws and
requirements for international travel, during international tours and/or competitions.

8. REPLACEMENT OF ATHLETES

Replacement of players will be made up of those who are recommended by the
Selection/Evaluation Committee from the original pool of athletes from all Provinces
and FootGolf affiliate structures.

9. ANTI-DOPING REQUIREMENTS

9.1. Players must adhere to all World Anti-Doping Agency anti-doping protocols,
policies, and procedures, as applicable.
9.2. This is in strict accordance with Clauses 6.14 and 6.15 of the FGSA
constitution
